Our job is to identify risks and implement effective compliance programs for global businesses.
While employers use criminal background checks as a useful hiring tool, reliance on them may expose organizations to significant liability. Even using background checks as required by state law is problematic; complying with state law is not a defense to federal discrimination laws.
Jeffrey Klink will be speaking on this subject at the 2016 Employment Law Institute West on Friday, November 18 in Pittsburgh.
The session will review:
- the dilemmas associated with use of criminal background checks
- court and EEOC guidance
- common pitfalls
- frequent questions regarding their use.
